Meals on Wheels Yolo County expanded its services through its Operation Accelerate initiative aimed at connecting rural communities and underserved neighborhoods.

“Thousands of seniors throughout Yolo County are food insecure, isolated and struggling as pandemic disruption lingers,” a press release from the nonprofit stated. “So many await a knock at their door with a hot, healthy meal, a smile and conversation provided by ‘MOW Yolo.’”

The release noted that skyrocketing food and fuel costs are striking at the nonprofit’s work by increasing its expenses by 40%.

“Unlike many similar senior nutrition programs, MOW Yolo freshly prepares the more than 10,500 meals currently doorstep-delivered to nearly 550 aging adults each month,” the release emphasized. “Your generosity with funds and time extends MOW Yolo’s impact by offsetting the extraordinary food and fuel expenses that threaten success.”
