The Blue Guitar at Legend Brewing Company July 22, 6:30 PM

Their name is accurate. Don’t know much about them but I haven’t give Legend some love lately.

The Blue Guitar is out in force at Legend Brewing Company! R&B, pop/rock, jazz, soul, and a little funk all served up with great vocals, and funky jams. Something for everyone!

9th Anniversary Party at Strangeways Brewing 7/23

Strangeways is strange and they have been for 9 years now. They should also get an award for the most use of monkeys in their marketing. More monkeys in craft brew marketing has always been a motto of mine.

I don’t know bourbon from bon-bons but this story seems like it could be made into a movie.

Ex-Virginia ABC worker busted over rare bourbon – CBS6

Virginia bourbon and whiskey chasers were not terribly surprised when a former Virginia ABC employee and another man were charged with allegedly selling internal information on rare spirits to bourbon enthusiasts.

One Richmond bourbon lover said it was somewhat of an open secret in online forums.

“The guy was actually in a couple of the groups or what not. He would kind of talk about it, brag about it,” Brian Houchen, who began “bourbon hunting” a few years back, said.

Last month, a multi-jurisdictional grand jury indicted Edgar Smith Garcia, a former Virginia ABC sales manager, and Robert Williams Adams, who did not work for ABC, with felony embezzlement and computer trespassing.

It’s Time for Da Perculator – A Benefit for Doug Dobey at Castelburg Brewery July 16th, 3-10 PM

This one is near and dear to my heart. Doug Dobey is a close friend and suffered a stroke. This will help raise funds to cover medical and living expenses. Tons of great bands, raffles and silent auctions. Even if you don’t know Doug this is worth coming out for.

Let’s raise some money for Doug Dobey’s continued recovery!

Doug experienced a health crisis in April. Freelance graphic designers don’t get paid if they’re not working. We want to help raise funds so Doug and his daughter, Harper, can focus on his recovery. There will be great beer, live music and fun raffles! If you have gift cards or items that could be raffled off, please contact Mark Anderson Brown at [email protected] If you are an artist, and would like to donate items to be sold at the July 16th fundraiser, please contact Kelly Adler at [email protected] If you can’t attend, consider donating to his GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/55465c13

It’s 4th of July Weekend and it looks like all the breweries are throwing in the event towel so the focus this week is on new releases and one special bike ride.

5th Annual Tour De Quy Bike Ride on the Capital Trail July 1st, 9AM

I didn’t know Quy Pham but this is a wonderful way to honor the man.

On June 30, it will be 3 years since we lost our dear friend, Quy Pham. It’s difficult to find a proper way to honor the ones we miss but his friends felt we could do something to celebrate his memory. Join us in a ride from 4 Mile Creek Park on the Capital Trail starting at 9 am for a bike ride. All paces welcome and choose your own distance to ride.

A faster group of riders is planning to ride 55 miles total but feel free to shorten the route as needed and just have fun. There is a restaurant called Cul’s Courthouse Grille right on the trail across the street from the Charles City Courthouse. Stop in for lunch and beverages before heading back to 4 Mile Creek Park. If you make it to Charles City your ride will be around 38 miles.

Back at Final Gravity Brewing Co we will release #55 Hazy IPA also on Friday so stop in for a beer.

Cream Ale Release at all Hardywood locations July 1st, 2-10PM

I hear that some folks like the cream ales. For those of you that have garbage tastebuds enjoy. I’ll be over here drinking my hazy, strawberry mango, blueberry, vanilla IPA with a hint of pine.

We’re excited to bring a special release back to our taprooms of Hardywood Cream Ale!

In 1935, Richmond, Virginia made beer history as the first place ever to sell canned beer, a cream ale from Krueger Brewing Company. A tribute to the original canned beer, Hardywood Cream Ale is an unfiltered example of the style that embraces its east coast roots with an unbelievably smooth body and a refreshingly clean finish from extended cold conditioning in our lagering tanks. Raise a can to RVA, where the canned beer revolution began!

Pineapple Whip Release at Center of the Universe July 2nd, 12PM

Pineapple is a tricky fruit when added to other things. It could be awesome or could be overly sweet. Head up 95 to see where this beer lands.

Join us for the release of a new found favorite, the Pineapple Whip! Like a tropical vacation for your mouth, this collaboration between Center of the Universe and Origin Beer Lab will take you on a flavor vacation with stops at Pineapple Island and Vanilla Bean Beach. Crack open a slice of paradise and get swept away! 16oz 4-Pack Cans and Draft Available 6.1% ABV

The beer news was an easy pick this week. What I found interesting was the comment on the Stone Bistro we were promised when Stone first announced their move to Richmond.

Stone Brewing execs speak out on pending acquisition by Sapporo – Richmond BizSense.com

Asked the latest regarding Stone’s bistro plans for Richmond, Monahan said the bistro was not in their immediate plans and pointed to a food trailer Stone recently began operating at the brewery as a food option.

Kölschfest at Triple Crossing Fulton June 19th, 12-9 PM, $10

This event was a big hit last time and I’m sure it will be again. Space is limited so time your arrival carefully and/or be patient about a little wait time.

On the day, June 19th, you will make your way into our Fulton event space just beyond the double doors at the back of the tasting room. We will have one of our team members posted at the door to sell coasters, food tickets, provide information about how it all works, and to send you off into the wild to grab a seat at one of the tables after the purchase of one or many…probably many coasters.

Special Kölsch Festival coasters will be sold for $10.00/each and include 4 x 200ml Kölsch Stange pours. As you begin to empty your first of the day lager-like ale (brought to you with care by our staff in our incredibly difficult to source Kölsch wreaths or “Kranz”) you then have a choice to make.

If you place your empty Stange on the table and DO NOT cover your glass with your coaster, our servers will, without the need for any verbal exchange, bring you another fresh Kölsch pour and mark your coaster for each pour accordingly. Should you not want any further service between full pours, simply place your coaster on top of your glass, and our staff will know that you are for then at least, all done. Given the unique and highly efficient level of service this method provides, one can see that these coasters are important to the process and will be the only way you can partake in the festivities.

Some important notes: -Only Kölsch will be poured in our event space for Kölsch Festival, other beers will be poured as normal in our tasting room. -Kölsch Festival will operate on a first come, first serve basis. This will not be a ticketed event; your purchased coaster gets you 4 pours for $10.00. -Additional coasters can be purchased throughout the festival (12pm-8pm). -The festival will be limited to a capacity of ~ 150 people at any one time -Food options/menu are still forthcoming.

That’s all for now, but rest assured, more details to follow in the coming week.

Some bullshit to report. How about the racist douchebags stay out of my favorite brewery? In fact, stay out of all the breweries and society in general until you learn that there is no place for you in this country.
