Should you replace your garage door rollers?

Rollers are an important part of your garage door system.  They roll on the track as your door opens and closes.  A lot of new doors are installed with steel rollers, which can make the operation of opening and closing your door louder than homeowners would like.

What type of rollers do you have?

There are two main types of rollers.

Builder-grade rollers tend to be made from steel and do not have ball bearings.  If you have these types of rollers and are happy with their operation, you should consider replacing them every two years.  Steel rollers with ball bearings tend to require replacement more often than other roller options.

Homeowners often believe that the noise their garage makes when it is opening and closing is just part of the function of the door.  This need not be the case.  Nylon rollers are a preferred option precisely because they are more quiet and reasonably durable. Homeowners who learn about nylon rollers often choose this upgrade for their garage door system since the cost is minimal and the result much preferred.  Our teams at Mo Better Garage can often find ways to reduce the noise of a garage door system.  One of the most common ways to correct the noise is by upgrading to nylon rollers.

If your door is making noise when it opens and closes, then your door may be a perfect candidate for new, upgraded rollers.  We frequently help educate homeowners on roller upgrades during our maintenance appointments.  Your garage door is your largest moving part of your home.  At Mo Better Garage, we recommend that it be maintained once a year.  If you want to make your garage Waaay Mo Better, give us a call.  We would be happy to help.  How do I know?  Because I am Mo.
