The Bottom Line: What is a Grand Wagoneer? The Grand Wagoneer is an all new model from Jeep for 2022, and it’s a luxurious SUV that’s 10 inches longer than the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. This new Wagoneer has three rows of seats and its chassis features a rugged truck style ladder frame, with independent rear suspension.

Jeep is coming out with two Wagoneer versions for 2022. There’s the standard Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer, and both are large 3 row SUVs. Jeep elevates the Grand Wagoneer to upper level luxury status with distinct styling elements, an upgraded interior, a more powerful engine, and a lot of high end features. The Grand Wagoneer is Jeep’s new flagship SUV.

Set to take on the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator, the 2022 Wagoneer has Hemi V-8 power, plus 10,000 pounds of towing capacity, and a super deluxe interior. The interior is heavy on technology, with up to 7 available displays, including one screen that’s dedicated just for the front passenger. Plus it has a power folding third row seat, and fantastic storage options that give you the most flexibility for all your gear.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will come in five trim levels, ranging in price from $88,995 to $105,995, including the $2000 destination charge. Jeep says a fully loaded Grand Wagoneer will approach the $111,000 mark, plus sales tax and DMV fees. Think $125 Grand out the door. Maybe that’s why they call it a Grand Wagoneer?

This week Jeep sent me a 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Obsidian 4×4 Luxury SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Obsidian 4×4 Edition is $94,845. The options on the test SUV are: the metallic paint for $595, the Obsidian appearance package for $5,000, the convenience group for $3,595, the heavy duty trailer tow package for $995, and the rear entertainment group for $1,995.

The MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $2,000 destination charge is: $109,025. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total out the door, and in your garage purchase price came to: $122, 653. When you’re in the $125,000 neighborhood for a luxury SUV it has to be the best of the best out there, and the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian takes the full size luxury SUV class to new heights.

What is the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian? Even though the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are the same vehicles at heart, only the Grand Wagoneer offers the Obsidian package. As the name implies this model is for the fans of the blacked out look, and comes standard with a 6.4L liter V8 engine putting out 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque, bolted to an 8 speed automatic transmission, with standard 4×4 AWD all wheel drive.

Leading the option list is the upgraded Obsidian appearance package starting with ventilated and heated front and rear seats, a foldable cargo shade, premium color tinted glass, piano black exterior trim accents, adjustable roof rail crossbars, black clear coat exterior paint, a McIntosh Studio Reference entertainment system with 23 audio powered speakers, a front passenger interactive digital display screen, a set of 22″ tinted and polished alloy wheels with black insert spokes, a front center console beverage cooler, black interior accents, a black painted roof, and gloss black daylight opening moldings. The Obsidian Edition has the most blacked out trim accents, inside and out, of any of the new luxury SUVs out there.

The full size luxury SUV class has only 8 name plates to choose from, and they are: the Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes Benz GLS, BMW X7, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Denali, and the new kid on the block, the Grand Wagoneer. As Jeep is the latest entry into the Big Boys Club of $100,000+ in cost full size SUVs, they knew they had to make the Grand Wagoneer the best of the best in luxury, comfort, style and power. They hit all the benchmarks right out of the starting gate. There is nothing else like a Jeep Grand Wagoneer to compare it to, as it’s in a luxury class of its own.

When you’re ready to buy a new full size luxury SUV the Grand Wagoneer should be at the top of your ride and drive list, as it’s the newest entry in the full size luxury SUV class. Call, click or visit your local Jeep dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the all new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. And remember that the base price for a new Grand Wagoneer starts at only $87,995. Jeep – Go Anywhere – Do Anything – Since 1941.
